Call to artists for veterans art exhibit in November

WARE — The deadline to register artwork for the Massachusetts Veterans Art Exhibit is Oct. 15. The Massachusetts Veterans Art Show, a statewide exhibit, will be held at Art Works Gallery, 69 Main St. in November. Artwork by veterans, active duty military, National Guard and Reserves is welcome. Artists can choose whether your art is for sale or not. Registration is due by Oct. 15 and artwork needs to be delivered to Beverly Prestwood-Taylor by Oct. 24. Call 413-563-7282 for more drop-off instructions. All art must be framed and wired. Max 2D size is 36 inches, 3D size is to be preapproved if over 2 feet tall by 1 foot wide. All art that meets the guidelines will be accepted, but space is limited so art is accepted on a first come, first shown basis. Organized by the Brookfield Institute, the theme of the show is “Perspectives on Military Service.” Art pieces could include expressions of any form of military service, artistic reflections about combat, women in the military or the experience of the transition home. The exhibition will run Nov. 1-30 at Art Works Gallery. The exhibit is sponsored by Warrior’s Art Room and Monson Savings Bank and Warrior’s Art Room The purpose of the exhibit is twofold: to provide a space for veterans to create art to express and process their experiences and also to give the public a better understanding of military experience. An artists reception is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the gallery. There will be a People’s Choice Award awarded at the gallery, Friday, Nov. 28.
